It’s official. I have had the craziest week of 2017. Which is why I chose to give myself a break, and settle for a simple Sunday brunch in bed. It’s technically not even a table, and yet, it’s simply so romantic, and great way to spend a lazy afternoon with a loved one. And so, here it is – Table number 6, in the Table For Two series.
After the madness that was last week, I have been sleep-deprived, and we chose to sleep in late. Which meant either a late breakfast, or an early brunch. There is something so cozy and intimate about meals in bed. You can laze around, watch your favourite shows, listen to music, or just chat up over the meal. Since most of the food is in a single tray, it’s easy to clear up after the meal. Just follow a few simple rules, and you can get a table in bed going in no time at all.
A Lazy Sunday Brunch
I was in no mood to cook today. So most of the food was what I call “assembled food”. Simple sandwiches with sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions and lettuce, accompanied with a sweet-potatoes, corn and beetroot salad, watermelon juice, a fruit salad served in waffle cones, and some fresh strawberries. I used a breakfast tray that I had hurriedly painted white a few weeks back, and have still not gotten around to painting its legs. It’s a large spacious tray, big enough to hold almost all the food. Since there was quite a bit of colour on the tray itself, I did not dress it up. And whom am I fooling; I was feeling too lazy for frills. The husband had ordered two large slices of walnut cake, and they made it to the table too.
I think we were ready to tuck into our meal within 20 minutes, complete with preps, setting up and all! What can I say, some weeks are just like that, right? They leave you so tired. But that doesn’t mean that you have to stay deprived of some sweet, romantic moments shared over a criminally simple brunch. You can have practically anything – cupcakes, waffles, muffins, juices, cold cuts, cakes, soups, or even pies and salads. I love it that brunches really are so flexible.
Leaving You With A Promise
But let me promise you this. A lazy brunch one week definitely doesn’t mean that the upcoming tables will follow course. We are nearing the end of this year (already?), and it’s celebration time! December is going to be full of dazzle and fancies. And I have a couple of super cute DIYs lined up for you guys.
